LEGEND OF THE COMPASS Maitama

in the former America's Indigenous Mayans used this chest as a compass that guided them to where they had to go. There was a Cacique who stood out among all others. Maitama was his name and all to hear his voice trembled.
Maitama was the only one of all his tribe that he could handle and understand the compass Chia. So called because it was guided by the moon and the Indians to the moon called Chia whether in her honor that gave him his name Maitama. Each end of the month, performing a ritual where the Cacique consulted the compass to know where to go with his tribe. This showed them fertile and fruitful land, abundant where they could spend a month or even more often several months old.
There was an Indian who did not want to be called Cacique Maitama Guatavita. Grudge in his heart towards him, did not understand because this chest or you only worked at Compass Maitama. One night while sleeping Guatavita Maitama stole the compass and left his tribe. But misfortune came to him and to his tribe.
Guatavita was chased by other tribes who wanted the much cherished treasure of the compass until finally he was murdered. His tribe instead died in the place where the compass had been the last time they had no alternative.
The compass was later buried by an Indian tribe in the village of Saraguro Lonko by an Indian who wanted to hide it from the Spanish invaders.
Until today that an archaeological study of recovered and is now part of the National History Museum and will remain there for many generations to know their roots. Maybe in the future will be collected and disposed of as waste.
